A Hockey Blog for the Rest of Us…
Underthebar is a hockey blog dedicated to all those who play and train for the sport of ice hockey…just because.
It’s not about the big time. It’s not about making the big time, either.
There is plenty of writing devoted to those who devote their lives and livelihoods to the sport. There are lots of people who know way more about professional hockey players – and the needs of professional hockey players – than I ever will.
It’s not the focus here.
Life. Hockey. Play.
This is a blog about about playing a game for the sake of the game, and training just for the sheer pleasure of it.
It’s a blog for and about the people who play the game.
For fun.
Topics? Have Your Say!
I’m not sure what we actually will cover on this blog, but these some of the things I think *I’d* like to cover:
- profiles and interviews of recreational players
- reviews of gear for those of us who have to buy our own 🙂
- tips for people who think they want to play hockey, but don’t know how to start
- tips for recreational level players
- observations about goaltending
- observations about training when you’re not an elite level athlete
- stories about playing in rec leagues, learning a new sport, being terrible, being injured, and juggling a love of hockey with all the other things we want to do. Like eat and work and spend time with our loved ones and stuff.
I’m sure there’s other stuff, but that’s a start. And of course, it would be great to hear what you’d like to see.

Chief Keeper of UndertheBar.Net
UndertheBar.Net is the creation of Cathy Chiba, who doesn’t play hockey for a living. Some of her non-internet time is spent minding a real-life goalie net, but when she’s not doing that you might find her:
- blogging about high weirdness and self-improvement for gentle freaks at Freak and Brilliant
- helping quirky techies engage their humans at Dauratus
- trying to convince people they should hire her as a public speaker at cathychiba.com
Twitter is a reasonable place to make contact with her.
